If you have a corp account and using your corp booking system you may be getting some type of discount, or deal (company credits - executive perks) when certain booking classses are used. So that may be driving the V.

The problem with the AA.COM system, compared to DL.COM, it will not let it's customers pick the booking class. When boking on line, if you want a specific booking code you have to do a HOLD and then call up AA and have them change it. Maybe someday AA.COM system will get updated to provide what the consumer wants.
