The majority of gun-related homicides in the USA are criminals killing other criminals - this is a net gain for society (particularly when you add in the law-abiding gun owners who kill the odd criminal), therefore the existing legislative regime makes a bunch of sense.
Need I remind you who holds the record in the Western world for the biggest random mass shooting of civilians in peacetime? Hint: It's not the country where Walmart sells guns.
