A couple of suggestions, then, to help you in this process:
1. The best way to acquire information on FT is to research your question. Every time I research a question here, I end up finding out the answers to 10 other questions that I didn't even know enough to ask. I recommend starting with the NEWCOMERS: PLEASE READ FIRST announcement at the top of the page. It will direct you to the Wiki, which has a lot of very useful information.
2. Next, I would recommend taking a stroll through the Unofficial User's Guide sticky. It contains links to many master threads, where there is information on different topics. If you see something that piques your interest, open that thread and get the info.
3. The Search function is a great tool for finding out information - it takes a bit of practice to learn how to use it, but there is a nice thread
here with some good tips, and another one
here. As with many things in life, you will find out that what you get out of it depends largely on what you are willing to put into it.
4. If the answer to your question is not in one of the three areas listed above, then look for a recent thread dealing with that topic to ask your question in. If there are no threads in the last year or so, then start a new thread to ask it. You will get best results if your question follows the format of "Here is what I wanted to do, here is what I tried, here is what happened, how can I do this better", rather than the format of "AA is stupid and full of it, why don't they do things the way I think they should?".
Good luck, and happy hunting.
