And apparently going back in the same day isn't allowed. So they put a big red 'cancelled' stamp over the new entry stamp.

So, the question is -- will this cause me problems going to the US? I haven't done anything 'wrong', but am concerned that they may take this as being denied entry to the country (one of the questions you have to ask on the I-94 form).

Am getting a little stressed about this, so please help!

Thanks
The "cancelled" or "not valid" stamps placed by a country's own immigration/customs personnel over its own stamps shouldn't cause any problems in going to the US such that it actually prevents travel to the US or even causes any substantial issue. Questions may be asked, but even that is not common.

As we are talking about a stamp and not a stickered visa affixed to the passport, it is unlikely to be taken as evidence of being denied entry to the country when it's clear from earlier stamps in the same passport that you were there just before. Did you happen to get an exit stamp when departing the country later?

This really is nothing to get stressed out about over this as a simple explanation will more than likely work in the off-chance that someone asks about it.
