I had an identical issue with Virgin on the milesplusmoney deal a few weeks back. In the end, the "receipt" attached to the actual tickets (picked up at check-in) had to suffice.
Sadly, due to the Qantas points situation that you, Richard, are now happily involved in, my next two bits of miles-based business-class travel are with BA (courtesy of Qantas) - the first time I've been transatlantic non-Virgin for quite some time.
Virgin - if you're reading this, I did call your marketing people but you just weren't interested.
