Bear in mind you'll need to clear security twice: once at EDI and once at LHR T4. I'd do all you can to avoid checking it in - they've delayed my bag three times in the past 12 months on T5 -> T4 transfers.

You could pack one of these emergency folding bags in your hand luggage if move everything into that if necessary.
