As a Plat, I certainly wouldn't have blown miles to upgrade a domestic itinerary. I'm usually 95-100% on domestic upgrades, but perhaps it's harder out of the cities you're flying out of.
I don't really want a refund or anything I knew that was an option. I was just curious how I go about using these unused portions in the future. I know the pricing for the segments is broken down on the receipt. I used miles to upgrade us basically because there are certain time periods of the year when I like to use miles to upgrade for piece of mind (Thanksgiving and Christmas time from SEA-MSP, and in the Springtime (Spring Break) when my itinerary includes segments like MSP-RSW/MIA. I don't like messing around with having to sit in back if I don't have to. During christmas and spring break I always run into these families who have like mom, dad, and three kids taking up 5 F seats, so I figure if they're gonna blow some miles for stuff like that, I'm gonna blow some miles too..
