It seems to me that this, like the other airlines, is a reaction to ongoing decline in premium traffic rather than recent events in the US. Quite how they can proclaim to make such large startegic long term decisions based on a reaction to a tragic, sudden situation amazes me. Of course people have cancelled bookings, just like after any aviation disaster/terrorism, but give it 6 months and traffic will be up again. Will they rehire those people then? no.
To me its sad that, in a way, they're leveraging this tragic situation to excuse laying off staff that they've been wanting to get rid of for a while. Not just VS but UA, CO, AA too. Shame on them.
