We're headed north, so Hamburg would save several hours driving . . . but I am also thinking that it is a smaller, friendlier airport. Actually, fares to Germany are typically more or less the same regardless of where your destination is. So, it may well make lots of sense to fly to FRA and to connect to the place closest to your final destination, such as Hamburg, and then drive from there.
