The man who led the charge to block ACE Aviation Holdings Inc.'s unwinding last year says he believes speculation of an imminent bankruptcy at Air Canada are "overblown" and that ACE could better serve its shareholders by helping the airline through its current troubles than rushing to unwind itself.
"[Air Canada is] not about to file for bankruptcy right now, but the stock is acting like they are," said Greg Boland, West Face Capital Inc. chief executive, in an interview Wednesday. "By taking a vested interest in the airline and its well-being, there would be a lot more value recognized for ACE shareholders."
