I had a similar offer from both the Westin Whister and the Westin Rancho Mirage. I was a Gold at the time of the Whistler stay but a Plat when the Rancho Mirage one came. I forget the actual terms of the upgrade but I declined and ended up getting the Presidential Suite.

I guess that hotels are doing what they can to drive up their revenue right now.
