There are two of us and we won't have heavy baggage. It's only a weekend trip so we'll probably just have a backpack each. I don't think we'll mind paying the extra $10-$15 to take a cab from LGA, which seems like the easiest route. I think we'll plan on going into LGA unless a better flight into EWR presents itself.

Since money is an issue, why not let the airline dictate into which airport you fly. Find the best roundtrip price and go to that airport. That's my advice.
