Check out the HI Santa Monica Beach. I have never stayed there, but the location is great. Not too far from LAX, either.

Good luck with the $120 spending limit, as one is quite fortunate to get any halfway decent LA area hotels at that level. I was pretty lucky to get a AAA $119 rate at the CP Ventura Beach last week, but I had to negotiate extensively.
