Agree with all your points thought that the SN service is far from an ideal replacement. I regularly fly to ZRH so BRU could have been an ok transit point.
Yes, it's because it's the summer holiday. I suspect (although I've never checked in detail) that it's closely linked to when the European Parliament is sitting or not.
