Top Vegetarian Restauarants / Menus in the UK

I just wondered if people wouldn't mind sharing their experiences of top-quality vegetarian restaurants, or restaurants that have their own, separate (or, at least, worthwhile) vegetarian menu in the UK?

There seem to be quite a lot of references to US vegetarian venues, but not a great deal for the UK. (Sorry if there is a thread - I couldn't easily find it!)

I'm not after info on health-food bars and the like - much as they are great - I'm really looking for info on places that you can dress up smart and go out for a great dinner on Friday/Saturday evening, if you know what I mean! Nice night out on the town is what I have in mind.

Doesn't have to be strictly vegetarian, but MUST have a proper vegetarian menu like they care - I'm not interested in places that just cater (one, 2 or 3 options doesn't do it for me, I'm afraid.)

I'll start it off with my own personal favourite; The Orrery in Marylebone High Street, London. Part of the D&D Restaurant group - formerly Conran - not vegetarian but very vegetarian friendly. I take my wife there once every few months and we have their "Potager" menu with wine selection - it's a vegetarian 6/7 course tasting menu and it's always SUPERB! cost per person is £50 for the menu, £40 more if you want the wine pairings, £11 supplement for cheeses (well worth it!) plus 12.5% service. We never spend less than £250 there, so it is a special night out....but that's the kind of thing I'm after here.

We've always been made to feel welcome at The Orrery; the service is always excellent and the food is exquisite. It really does feel like an EVENT - we usually spend about 3-4 hours there...gradually getting fuller and more merry as the evening moves on. The cheese selection is at a supplement, but if you like your cheeses as I do you will not want to miss it (well, you can't miss it because you will smell the cheese trolley being wheeled around you from time to time). There's usually a selection of approximately 30-40 cheeses or more! My advice; take advice from the man wheeling the trolley!!

Here's the link for it if anyone is interested; http://danddlondon.com/restaurants/orrery/home

Any recommendations, info, or suggestions would be welcome.....
