As far as I'm concerned initially funding the account is one of the best "secrets" of Citibank accounts. I haven't read this whole read (guilty as charged), so I don't know if it has been discussed here, but you can do the initial funding with a Citibank MC or Citibank VISA (potentially other non-CitiBank & non--Visas, but I'm just speaking from experience here...). Citi will not allow you to do the initial funding with any type AMEX Credit Card, I know that much...
Example: Say you don't have a CitiBank AA Credit Card. Apply for one, get approved for a $25,000 credit limit. Take the new credit card & initially fund the Citibank Checking Account in this offer to the tune of $23,000. Then take the $23,000 from your checking account, & pay off the CC. Keep your 6K in your CD & then collect tons of Miles...
25K Initial CC Signup Bonus -- (initial spending completed by initial funding...)
23K in $ spent via your AA Citi CC.
20K for this offer
= Total of 68K in AA Miles... Yaaayyyy!!!!!!
