I have been around a long while and have never seen such a thread (much less very many many many) on why seat maps can not be used as an accurate measurement of flight loads.
I suspect that you jumped onto group think when a poster similar to yourself boldly asserted the irrelevance of the seat map. You just took it for the Gospel.
So, rising in defense of seap maps here, my vast international travel experience informs me that seat maps are an excellent indicator of loads, certainly the best indicator available to Joe Public. My experience is only premium cabins because I don't fly economy international.
Most CSRs and even airlines will auto-assign business & first class seating on all reservations.
Summary: Seat Map is quite informative for loads in business class on United.
LAX-UA-LHR-YY-DUB $2700 one-way in D. Upgradable to F of course. I don't fly UA Z.
