I agree. In a recent Continental nonstop flight to and from Mumbai to Newark, the FAs completely closed the crossover. With just 4 toilets for over 200 passengers, it was a long wait everytime for everyone. A tray of sandwiches and a carton of orange juice were left outside the curtain.
What were the FAS doing behind the curtain? There was a big pile of magazines on the floor and they were reading, making comments and laughing.
I never had a problem crossing over or entering the rear galley for water or even a cup of coffee. Only one time was I asked to stay out, which was on the ground at GRU while the rear galley was being serviced. I had to assume it was a safety / security issue. The FA was quite nice about it and I wasn't put off by the way he handled it. A few minutes later he sat near me and we had a nice chat while he was waiting for the pax from another CO flight (31 from EWR) to board for the short hop to GIG.
