Given that there are not many things you could do with 19K miles, you should transfer them. If there were enough for an award, you could just redeem them, since you obviously have her PIN code. But even in that case you would have some leftover miles, so transfer is the way to go here. On other airlines which might charge fees and have lots of red tape, redeem might be your only viable option.
