Depending on flight time, time of year, etc. this cannot be overemphasized. I'm in OGG right now, and F on our return OGG-SFO is completely full and has been for 3 weeks, when my 1P husband got the last seat NF. (I'm still hoping for a miracle to open another seat-or more-before departure, but am not expecting it.

On our trip out here yesterday, we got upgrades for SFO-OGG at the gate -- but only three were given out, all to 1Ps, and there were 8 people waiting for them.
