You went all the way to French Polynesia and you didn't even experience the OWB's on Bora Bora, where they're legendary and originated (Hotel Bora Bora): Le Meridien and St Regis Bora Bora being the 2 SPG properties now.

Other than SPG and non-SPG OWB's throughout French Polynesia and the Maldives which provide "roll out of bed into good snorkeling", the only other "best" alternative with OWB's I can think of doesn't have a SPG resort: Aitutaki (Cook Islands)
+1 for the Maldives here. Literally rolled off the deck from a nap right into the coral reef. The sea life was pretty good as well - snorkeling was as good as I've experienced anywhere really, including parts of the Great Barrier Reef.
