I don't think the GAs would independently take this sort of action. But maybe I'm wrong.

Anyway, Mom + sister got an op-up LHR - YYZ last week. They were already sitting down when the FA asked them to gather their stuff and follow her to a better seat. They were told in hushed tones that this was complimentary.

Mom is E and sister is Tangerine so it surprised me that they both got the op-up.
