JM consolidated its flights to FLL some time back, in recognition of the very large Jamacian community in the West-Central Broward County area (it's not a coincidence that the city of Lauderhill recently built a regulation cricket facility). Of course, landing fees and terminal costs may have played a role in their decision as well.
Before the decision that
N830MH reports, AA may have retained the FLL-KIN service to maintain a 'beachhead' presence in the community's mind.
Howevr, as evidenced by the loss of the early morning nonstops from FLL to DFW and ORD, it seems clear that AA is proceeding with their previously-announced plans to consolidate more of their South Florida service at their hub airport.
Actually JM's decision to stop flying to MIA less than two months ago ( Jam Hill and cricket pitch not withstanding

) was in part an overall reduction on many operating routes (which included ATL, LHR and other US cities) since the airline is bleeding the Jamaican Govt and is very close to going under and their apparant survival is now pinned on hopes of being bought out a China based carrier.
The fact is that there has been a substantial reduction in US/KIN traffic including the important air-cargo business.
