while ryan air may charge more then everyone else, it is now the norm to charge for checked bags. Oddly enough the most notable airlines bucking the trend are US based LCCs, ala Southwest (2 bags free, down from their original 3 bags for free) and JetBlue (1 bag free, down from their original 2 bags free).
