Many thanks for this information - very helpful to hear from a local! If we do decide to go into town, is there a left luggage place at the airport? We will have a carry-on each, plus books, laptop and heavy winter coats for Europe, and would prefer not to cart all that around with us.

Also, I assume we can change money at the airport before taking a taxi? We will have US dollar travellers cheques plus some Australian dollar banknotes.
