i got up about halfway through an iad to pdx flight to use lav and the fasten seat belt sign was on, but there was no turbulence, and the sign hadn't been turned off yet. i walked all the way from 6a on the 320 back to the lavs and the fa was sitting in her seat reading a magazine, and said, "the seat belt sign is on" and i said that i just need to use the restroom. she rolled her eyes and made like an angry sigh. there was someone in the bathroom, and i stood there, she said, "sir, you cannot stand there" and started to get very angry. so i went back to my seat. i know i was in the wrong, but should the fa have been a jerk to me? does getting up with the seatbelt sign on warrant that much anger? or do the fas get in trouble with higher ups when they let people get up with the seat belt sign on?
Perhaps this FA had never got 'the call of nature' when the seatbelt sign is on?

When you have to go, you'd either wait and hold and feel like every minute passing like hours or days; or bolt out (weather permitting) and reach the nearest lavatory.

Here's my 2 cent if you'd like to hear:

On SQ, it's fine to do so if the turbulence isn't bad; and they'll let you know if the turbulence is getting worse and request you to return to your seat

On UA, I've never been denied entry into the lavatory even if the seatbelt sign is on (and light turbulence only).

On AS, Never had any problems; but they'll advise you to get back to your seat when the turbulence is bad.

On MI, the same as SQ.

On CO, on occasion they will 'caution' you to not use the lavatory even if the turbulence was mild or no turbulence at all.

On VX, quite the same as SQ I believe; but when turbulence hits, they'll ask you to remain on your seat.

On JL, the FA's are rather strict; but they understand for the need to go when 'nature is calling' given the weather is permitting.

On TG, you'll find consistency in their seatbelt sign; if it's on, and you want to go due to nature, they will advise you against it.
