This makes more sense. So, setting aside the specific technical implementation differences, it is in principle not fundamentally different to IRIS with the main differences being that:
1) it is a face recognition system rather than an iris recognition system;
2) the data is read directly from the passport rather from a database.
Presumably, there must also be some kind of database checking involved, to identify those not authorised to enter the territory of subject to some other immigration control/check.
