Not sure where you are heading to in the US..have you considered PEK-IAD leaving after 6 pm?

I am going to have an almost same situation later this month. I need to fly to ORD from PEK, but cannot leave until after 5 pm. Currently, I am booked on PEK-IAD-ORD, which actually works out cheaper than PEK-ORD direct.
