CRJs are different since really no bags fit on them except laptop bags/briefcases. For those carry-on luggage is gate-checked and returned at the gate at your departure.
I know that after flying frequently for 12 years, but the post confused me because I have never valet checked a bag on a mainline flight! It's either on the plane or fully checked!
