I use my ISP email address for Hilton communications. Solely. No exceptions. I have always used this address, ever since I signed up for Hilton email. I use that address for almost all my email communications.
The only web-based email I use is Yahoo, one account. This gets my US Airways communications plus some genealogy communications. At first I thought this account was fairly anonymous to Yahoo, but that assumption vanished when one of the lesser known genealogy sites put my full name in an email header. So now Yahoo knows.
Follow me so far? Okay.
Just now I checked my Yahoo account, and there is an email from Hilton--their usual promotional email--and it mentions me by name!
How did Hilton get my Yahoo address? I have never given it to them. Never. Ever.
I went to the HiltonHhonors website and logged on. Checked my profile. It shows ONLY my ISP email address. There is no Yahoo address listed.
Curiously, the page that shows my correct ISP email address--by "correct," I mean the only address Hilton should have--remains on the screen for a split second. Then it vanishes, and the information goes blank. This happened twice.
I keep security procedures updated and think the chances of a virus are about the same as an asteriod hitting my backyard within the next few minutes--or rain falling on our yard, which DH, who hates watering and who has watched rain fall upon our neighbors' yards but not on ours (talk about conspiracy theories!), would think to fall within the same order of probability.
So how did Hilton get this cross-over email information???????????? Any ideas?
