Did US stop allowing for gate checking and receiving your bag via valet? My last few flights when they ran out of overhead space they told those passengers that their bag will only go to baggage claim.

On this flight the FA told a guy they only valet for CP. Come to think of it I only ever see the white tags and never yellow. (I assume valet means they bring the bag to the jetway instead of sending it to baggage claim)
