I just ran into one that turned out to be over 10 miles away when making a booking. (And, no, it's in a city with no other airport, before someone suggests that.) It's not a real problem, but I was a bit surprised.

10 miles is not unusual in some small airport markets. I recall a village hotel near MXP used by aircrew which seems to be close to 10 miles by road if not straight line.
I use a different standard/benchmark....
if the hotel runs a regularly scheduled (or even an "on call") shuttle from and to the airport, that's an "airport hotel". One public transit station/stop from the terminal? That's also an "airport hotel" in many perspectives.
