This might be an old news but it is new to me. I was able to have my ticket reissued today without penalty and paying the fare change difference, in which I believe made this itinerary qualify for the DEQM promo. To make the story short, based on the explanation of the AA agent in the use of eVIP, I asked her if she could remove the domestic upgrade for my international trip, which she agreed. Somehow, I did not realize that for her to do this, the ticket will be reissued to remove the upgrade and to re-attach the eVIPs to the reservation. When I checked my reservation online, the status indicates Ticketed - March 31, 2009. ^
