To the OP, I stayed in IC MCT (the original, not the Al Bustan) on business for 2 months and it was fine with a fantastic deep lap pool. Trader Vics was very good. Lots of army and navy in the Al Ghazal (the pub) on Wed / Thurs night.
It is worth paying for a seaview room as the mountain and city view rooms actually have a very disappointing view. Also get a Club room or room on the sixth floor as these rooms are much larger than the rooms on the lower floors.
I agree, the IC is in a very good position with a nice lawn area with loads of sunbeds and two pools. Trader Vic's (great cocktails!) and Senor Pico's (Mexican) are both good and the pub serves good pub grub.
