I guess I would do things like arrange for a car/shuttle/etc. myself from the airport. What if you missed a flight/was cancelled/etc. seems it's easier to do some things myself while others e.g., if I don't know a city and want something special I would probably ask the ambassador. All in all though, my two Plat Concierges that I use all of the time are just superb in every way so I would just stick with them!
I think DCBob was responding to my note about a Starwood Ambassador that was assigned to me, not a Platinum Concierge. I have nothing but good things to say about Platinum Concierges.

The Ambassadors specificially state, in introducing themselves, that they are there to help you with dining reservations, tickets, and other arrangements -- whether or not you're staying in a Starwood property. (In this case, I am.)

I thought I'd test that offer with an area I already knew (to see what they would be able to do, and if it would be easier for me), and it just hasn't quite worked. At least, not for me. Probably depends on the Ambassador one is assigned. I'm going back to doing it myself.
