When the tab is on you rather than an employer the $ do make a difference and I'm somewhat discouraged by the disparaging comments made about UA's E- cabin. If you have grandchildren you'll understand the desire to fly there often but that dictates getting the best deal. That explains this "different type of consumer."

For an extra $50 I may switch to Qantas or maybe V Australia's 777 because of the aforementioned IFE.
I think NZ provides an excellent product that can be purchase right now for ~$300 each way to Australia via AKL. Their E- product has IFE at each seat.
