Beyond the midrange, it's only about prestige
A number of years ago, my wife and I bought Tumi luggage after a sales pitch in a luggage store. I learned my lesson. The luggage lasted no longer than other luggage. I believe the mid range to be the sweet spot. You don't want to buy cheap junk that falls apart. On the other hand, the expensive names are more about marketing than actual performance. We bought Pathfinder luggage on a clearance sale at Ebags. 7 years later through many business trips and vacations, it is still going strong.
