This is my first time posting in this forum. I'm a Northwest Platinum Elite member and have spent the majority of my flights on Northwest metal. For an upcoming trip, it looks like I may be forced to fly on DL metal due to cost and availability..

The flight I am booked on is:

DL1597 LV DTW 0540 AR ATL 0745 connecting to
DL1579 LV ATL 0828 AR SJC 1045.

What I would *like* to do, is use miles either in my NW Worldperks account, or by transferring them to my SkyMiles account, upgrade myself into first class for these two segments.

I'm being told by the SkyMiles desk, however, that not all coach fares are upgradable -- something new to me since Northwest doesn't have this policy.

Even though there are fares left in V class, I do not want to chance sitting in coach for 5 hours on the flight from ATL to SJC and as such I'm trying to get a confirmed seat up front now.

Any suggestions how I could do this?
