The article was likely initially published shortly after the eruption and that statement is still at the end of the article, even though the ADN also quotes a NWS meterologist who basically says what their statement does in the prior post.
Beat me by one minute--I was just going to edit my post to mention the quote (now that I read the article).
Still, an AVO geologist doesn't have any clue about wind/weather patterns and ash fall areas. He should have said "no comment" and left that up to the NWS--they're the ones forecasting ash fall--rather than freaking everyone out (you should have seen all of my Anchorage friends posting on Facebook about the end of the world...

).
