True however at what point do you decide there is a design flaw?

If the same number of MD11's were produced as 330/340/777's would you have therefore expected 45 of them to have fatally crashed?

It doesn't work like that.

I myself have been on over 100 transatlantic DC10's / MD-11's over the years. Ok most of those flights were between 1990 and 2002 however both aircraft are very pleasant for the passengers onboard. Very spacious.

Furthermore, there have been quite a few 737 crashes over the years and more recently quite a few A320's have been lost.
