I have just booked this exact same route for November LHR-SSH with a stopover in CAI on the return. My booking is confirmed in Business and I have been charged Economy miles and cash.

Perhaps it is to do with the cabins offered at the time of booking and not the time of travel - ie book it before they switch to the A330?
