Why not just rent the car specifying a return at the same location, then call in the middle of your trip and change it to a one-way?


Never done this with Avis, so YMMV however.
I have done this with Avis in Montana twice, I rent the roundtrip in Bozeman but then mid trip I just call and drop off in Helena. They will tell you that you'll be charged something different than your original rate but it's dooable since they can't come pull you out of the car.
