I suspect because the OP said OW Plat (which does not exist), that may have confused the staff member.
When dealing with other alliance members, always state your OW tier level and not your own carrier's name for the tier, i.e. Ruby, Sapphire or Emerald.

It's not up to staff to learn the names of cards representing the 10 OW members. Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald are much easier to understand.
