Great info in this thread, but I'd point out two points which are surely well known to most experts here.

First, many brands offer several lines and each could represent a different value. Delsey, TravelPro etc come to mind.

Second, being able to find individual pieces at TJ Max etc now and then is a slightly different proposition than the entire brand or line being a good value in general. For example I don't think Polo brand is a great value, but I have run into very attractively priced individual Polo pieces now and then at such outlets.

All said and done, I do look at TJ Max etc and various online sources for special opportunities, but in general I view Red Oxx and Briggs & Riley as representing best value for my needs.

Of course, if money is no object, a few manufacturers will be glad to separate you from a lot of it; similarly, if you don't travel much or under rugged consitions, you may find a few less expensive brands more than adequate.
