Basically unless you had a corresponding ticket along with your QR reservation, ie on the same reservation, you will not stand a chance in getting a refund or any kind.

You may address this directly with QR in KUL.

Similarly, you might had better success had you addressed this with MH before you bought a new ticket and hope that they might have put you on an earlier flight with change fee or not, as you were connecting to QR. Its always harder to get money back once its paid for than getting a reservation changed.
