In cases of irrops or travel hassle, I always keep in mind the image of what it would have been like in my grandparents or greatgrandparents day. If they missed the coach, they'd have to wait a week for the next one. If the wheel broke, the pax would have to help fix it. If the ship hit a storm, you got sick and maybe it sunk.
