If my understanding is correct, Y, B & M fares are upgradeable using miles.

If the upgrade is available, it will be confirmed at time of booking. I would not recommend purchasing an upgradeable ticket and going on the waitlist. I was on a transcon B fare once and was on the waitlist using miles. It never cleared. At the gate, two medallions (on the lower fares), cleared before me.
