Here is some insight from a friend of mine who is intimately familiar with both the reasons behind the changes and the decision-makers themselves (paraphrasing):
No possibility of any positive changes coming along at the minute...it was simply a case of the negative balance of the accumulated miles on AF/KL's bottom line being too much and measures had to be taken immediately to correct that.
No chance of changing the planned FB adjustments at all - the only way you would be able to do so would be by getting directly to the right people (which is easier on the KL front) and also by bringing negative publicity to them - eg. on consumer TV programmes, outside head office, on Dutch TV locally etc... otherwise I see you as being doomed to fail I am afraid!
