Well, my luck has turned worse. Needed a car next week for 4 days, discovered a weekly was about 3 bucks more, so did that. Picked up this morning at 10517 Perry Highway HLE (Wexford, PA). 2008 Mazda 6 has 45,700 miles on it, Missouri plates. The only other car that looked likely I would get is a Corolla, though, and while it clearly looked newer, I can't stand the Corolla seat and will be driving a few hundred miles each way. I drove 1000 miles in one of these a couple times before and loved it.
So I drove off in the 6. Then after a few minutes I noticed the gas wasn't full. Pulled out the contract, it's listed as 4/8 so while that's pretty lame at least it was listed correctly on the contract (actually a bit in my favor, it seems). So far it drives quite alright, but what I didn't notice fully until later is how bad it smells inside. By the time I realized how bad it was it was past the closing time of the HLE. Ugh. (I don't know why it didn't seem as bad when I first got in it there, but it didn't.) I conceivably have time on Monday to attempt an exchange before driving out of town, but I don't know if that's worth it. If all they have is the Corolla I probably will take the comfort and smell over the newer car.
At least once I get to DC I won't have to drive it for a couple days. I put some scented Bounce dryer sheets in there for now, always a good trick for a smelly car. ;-)
