What is even worse is that tour operators/TAs who have local people handling inbound guests knew of this late Dec and early Jan and made alternate arrangements for their customers. The poor lot (very few in number compared to the total affected) who booked on spg.com are left high and dry


. I would expect a chain to take this issue seriously- if I had booked it with Amex Conceirge (as I have done with my current reservations) I would have been bailed out.
